CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

A child who is eligible for the Pre-K program and is eligible for special education and/or related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) shall not be denied access to the Pre-K program.  Children suspected of having developmental delays or disabilities are referred to the on-site Preschool Special Education Coordinator for further evaluation.  Children with disabilities are provided services in Pre-K classrooms according to their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) committee decisions.

All Emanuel County Pre-K child assessment practices reflect both age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate practices for preschool children.  Classroom teachers maintain an online assessment portfolio on each child to monitor progress in the High Scope Key Experience and Pre-K Content Standards.   This is done through observation, photographs, work samples, and the child  development checklist.  The Pre-K Progress Report is sent home inDecember and at the end of the school year in May.
