Code of Conduct and Discipline
STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
All Pre-K children are expected to behave appropriately and show respect for adults and other children, as well as themselves. Each classroom develops class rules which serve to guide and continually remind children of behavior expectations. Children who are chronically disruptive and who display behaviors which cause harm to self or others may be suspended or dis-enrolled from the program. All efforts will be made to correct any serious behavior problems before a child is removed from the program, and documentation will be kept on file by the teacher. Parents will be involved in each child’s behavior management plan and intervention activities and will be kept up-to-date on the child’s progress in regard to unacceptable behaviors. Disenrollment of a child requires prior approval of the office of Bright from the Start.
IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION for up to two days can be made without prior approval of the Bright from the Start in any situation where a child is causing harm to him/herself or others.
EXTENDED SUSPENSION for more than two days and/or more than three incidents of immediate suspension requires prior approval from the Bright from the Start office.
STUDENT DISCIPLINE
No employee shall use any form of corporal punishment, including but not limited to paddling, striking, or hitting, as a method of discipline in Georgia’s Pre-K program.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS
All schools in the Emanuel County School System will model and implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
STUDENT DRESS CODE
Pre-k students need to wear washable, comfortable clothing. We ask that all children wear tennis shoes or other shoes which cover most of the foot. Flip flops are not acceptable due to safety issues. Running and other movement activities are part of the daily physical development and children need to wear shoes which allow them to participate fully in planned daily activities. The wood chips on the playground also pose a safety issue with the flip flops.
